About

Lisa & Dustin Loyd, Owners of Storm Creek

This was an accident…

In the interest of full disclosure, I feel like I should admit that we never intended to start this rescue. I quit nursing school to train horses when we bought this farm, 16 years ago. When the market crashed and I saw a need, I approached my husband (we had the space and I had the knowledge to rehab and sell them) and we decided that we would take in a few. Within the first year we took in 40 horses. It was like dipping your toe in the water and finding yourself adrift in the Pacific.

We never had any money to begin with and we’d bought the farm in foreclosure (in pretty rough shape). All of the pens, the arena, the round pens, etc. have been slowly built by us. Holes were dug by hand (and those ones for the telephone poles SUCK!), barn tin was reclaimed and nailed up, fence was pieced together from whatever I could find on Craigslist…we operated this whole thing on shoestring budget and sweat. Lol, who am I kidding? We still do!

However, we have had hundreds of horses (and dogs. and peacocks. and potbellied pigs. cats. ducks. cows. goats. sheep…you get the idea) come through our doors. When something comes into our farm as a rescue, a lifetime commitment is instantly made. We rehab COMPLETELY before offering that animal up for adoption and we make certain that they have at least 30 days of training. Our adoption fees are insanely low but each animal comes with a LIFETIME contract and an ironclad return policy. That animal always has a place to go. We have several who are “Lifers” and whose medical or nutritional needs mean that it will live out the rest of its life right here.

We work so hard. We not only trim, train, medicate, and feed around 40 equines, 4 mini pigs, 2 cows, 3 sheep, 9 goats, 29 chickens, 4 ducks, 2 donkeys, 6 ponies, 11 dogs, 20 cats, 2 large pigs, a bearded dragon, and a ball python named Oscar…but we give riding lessons, guided trail rides, birthday parties, and offer rescue tours. We also have several fundraisers a year because even with everything we do and how hard we work, there’s no way to keep up without some help. We have an incredible support system (#StormCreekNationRocks) and we always manage to pull through!

Thanks for checking us out! We hope you’ll stick around
